Naprosyn is an oral medication with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its active ingredient Naproxen belongs to the drug group called non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and it works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase isozymes and blocking the production of arachidonates. Naprosyn reduces pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout. It can also be used in the management of acute musculoskeletal disorders like sprains, strains, low back pain, inflammation of tendon and muscle sheaths, and various soft tissue injuries.
Indications
treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, acute musculoskeletal disorders, and dysmenorrhea;
treatment of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
MOA (mechanism of action)
Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic compound with antipyretic properties. It blocks arachidonate binding which leads to the inhibition of both cyclooxygenase (COX) isozymes, COX-1 and COX-2. Their inhibition, especially of COX-2, ends up in the anti-inflammatory effect of the drug. The blockade of further production of arachidonate leads to analgesic and antipyretic properties of Naproxen.
