Proscalpin is an FDA-approved medication, manufactured by Centurion Laboratories.
MPB or MPHL (male pattern hair loss) affects a large percentage of men worldwide. It is a hereditary condition in which the hair follicles are particularly sensitive to the sex hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Male baldness begins above the temples and vertex, or calvaria, of the scalp. As it progresses, a rim of hair at the sides and rear of the head remains.
Each tablet of Proscalpin contains the active ingredient Finasteride. Finasteride has a trichogenic (hair growth-promoting) activity. It is categorized as a type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, meaning it inhibits the action of 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is necessary for conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT in its turn is responsible for follicle death and the loss of hair. Through inhibition of the conversion process, Proscalpin® lowers scalp and serum DHT concentrations (by up to 60%) and slows down the complete hair loss process.
Finasteride in higher doses (Finast, Fincar, Proscar, Prosteride) is used for the treatment and maintenance of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), female hirsutism (non-pregnant women with PCOS or with idiopathic hirsutism).
Dosage
Proscalpin® for MPB treatment is available in tablets. Each tablet contains 1 mg of Finasteride.
Take one tablet orally (by mouth) once a day, with or without food.
You should take the Proscalpin® at the same time every day.
Take Proscalpin® daily for at least 3 months or more if necessary before any noticeable results occur.
If Proscalpin® has not worked for you over a 12 months course then it is unlikely that further treatment will benefit.
Do not stop taking Proscalpin® suddenly, as any therapeutic benefits will be reversed.
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you want to stop the treatment before time or if you are intended to prolong treatment.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the doctor’s recommended dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
